Cachiyuyos - Giant Kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera)

El Cachiyuyo es un alga de gran longitud y ubicua distribucion en el mar patagónico. Vistos desde la superficie a primera vista se asemejan a un cúmulo de algas flotantes; no obstante este alga vesiculosa se encuentra fija al fondo marino. (The giant kelp is a long algae of ubicuous distribution through the patagonian sea. When seen from the surface, they resemble a bunch of floating algae; nevertheless this vesicled algae is fixed in the sea bottom)











En algunos lugares su densidad es alta formando "bosques" a traves de los cuales se puede bucear. (At some places their density is high forming kelp´s forests, however diving between them is almost always posible)








Bucear entre ellos es siempre una experiencia agradable (Diving between them is always a very nice experience)





















A veces toman aspecto algo fantasmagórico (Sometimes they can look ghostly)








Al contrario de ciertas creencias, los cachiyuyos no se alimentan de buceadores descuidados...(On the contrary of certain believes, the cachiyuyo kelp doesn´t feed on careless and silly divers...)
